-*Local Upload and Download*-
Local Logon...
Hit [F1] for Local Logon (type your USERID and PASSWORD) and select
the appropriate Forums Area. KBBS will upload and download just
like it does for callers, except the files will go to your hard
drive or floppy instead of over the modem.
Downloading a File...
Get the filename from KBBS by selecting [L]ist Files. Now select
[D]ownload and type the filename for download. Next, KBBS will
ask for the PATH (the location or subdirectory where the file
should go). If you want to put it on a floppy, type "A:" or
"B:". To put it on your hard drive, say on a directory called
"\temp" you should type "C:\TEMP". If you only type "C:" then it
will be put on your current directory which is "C:\KISSBBS".
Uploading a File...
Because the process is designed to work EXACTLY the same as
for modem callers, all uploads must go in the NEW Forums Area.
It is easiest (but not required) if you select the NEW Forums
Area and then select [U]pload. When asked, type the filename and the
description of your upload. Next, KBBS needs to know the PATH
(where the file lives now). Since KBBS already knows the
filename, do NOT type it again. For example, if you have a file
called "pinball.zip" located in your "games" directory, the PATH
would be "C:\GAMES". From a floppy, use "A:" or "B:".
Moving Uploads to Appropiate Forums Area...
When you upload locally, KBBS automatically grabs the date and
the filesize and puts this information, along with the
description you typed, into the NEW Forums Area "FILES.BBS" file,
which is used to display the [L]ist of Files. To move your upload
to your area of choice, recall that each Area has a "Key Command"
and a "Directory Name." For example, when you first got your
KBBS system, there was an Area in your "FORUMS.CFG" setup that is
called "DOS General Files Area" with key command of "D" and a
directory named "GEN". To mo[V]e a file, first hit [V] to move,
then type the FILENAME that is in your Forums Area. When asked
for the Area to Move to, you must type in the Area Directory. If
you want to move the file from NEW to GEN, then perform the MOVE
while in the NEW Forums Area, and give the Area Directory of "GEN"
when prompted. KBBS will automatically copy the file to your
Area of Choice, remove it from the Area your are in, as well as
update the "FILES.BBS" files in the current and selected Areas.
Files List is "FILES.BBS" ...
If for some reason you need to edit any of your "FILES.BBS"
files, be certain to use a strictly text editor such as "QEDIT"
or "NOTEPAD" for Windows. These files are located in your Forums
Areas under the "FILES" subdirectory. For example, the [D]os
General Files Area has a "FILES.BBS" located in the subdirectory:
C:\KISSBBS\FORUM\GEN\FILES\FILES.BBS
The [*] New Area has a "FILES.BBS" located in the subdirectory:
C:\KISSBBS\FORUM\NEW\FILES\FILES.BBS
